P. Golabi et al. assessed the burden of liver complications (cirrhosis and liver cancer) related to NAFLD between 2009-2019 in Asia and MENA (Middle East and Northern Africa) regions, using Global Burden of Disease data to assess incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted-life-years (DALYs).
Globally, NAFLD is posing a substantial burden in Asia and MENA. About half of the global burden of liver complications (cirrhosis and liver cancer) related to NAFLD is accounted by these regions. For the authors, regional and global policies are needed to address the increasing burden of complications of NAFLD.
