In this article, S. Rademacher et al. (University of Leipzig Medical Center, Germany) point that liver cirrhosis due to NASH, alcoholic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhosis are now among the leading indications for liver transplantation.
The authors review the current state of the art and explore future possibilities in the field of liver transplantation: optimisation of organ allocation, optimisation of immunosuppression, and increasing the donor organ pool.
