This proof of concept study was designed to assess if vitamin E, alone or combined with pioglitazone, improves histology in patients with T2DM and NASH. It showed no effect of vitamin E on ballooning or inflammation, although some effect on NASH resolution was seen. Albeit small sample size, it challenges the effect of vitamin E on NASH in patients with type-2 diabetes but larger studies are needed so settle the issue.
