Commentary

This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate if MAFLD is associated with a more severe disease course of COVID-19. P. J. Hegyi et al. (Medical School, University, Pécs, Hungary) included nine studies in this quantitative and qualitative synthesis.

MAFLD and NAFLD are associated with a more severe clinical picture of COVID-19. These results support the importance of close monitoring of COVID-19 patients with MAFLD.
