Commentary
NAFLD, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease share a common pathophysiology including insulin resistance, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, dysbiosis and genetic susceptibilities.
The aim of this review by C. M. Perdomo et al. (Clínica Universidad de Navarra, and Instituto de Investigación en la Salud de Navarra, Spain) is “to raise awareness about the relationship of NAFLD, CVD and CKD in T2D patients and to improve our understanding and assessment of those conditions”.
Early diagnosis and treatment of NAFLD could ameliorate the burden of cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease.
