The role of fatty liver disease and metabolic comorbidities in the progression of chronic liver disease

Coexistent steatosis and related metabolic factors, including obesity and DM, exacerbate liver injury in patients with another chronic liver disease and may be risk factors for the development of severe outcomes. The findings presented here have important therapeutic implications and indicate that steatosis and the related metabolic factors should be taken into account even if they are not the primary cause of liver disease.
